Why going off the Beaten Path in Ireland is essential!

To truly immerse yourself in any country it is essential to explore or deviate from the suggested or usual routes.
Away from the madding crowd! The best restaurants or shebeens (little pub) can be hidden and unmarked, the most memorable characters along an often bypassed boreen or byroad. Magical sights can and are down roads with grass growing up through the middle.
Viewing these off the beaten path places or meeting these people is what gives us the memories that remain with us. That friendly farmer sowing his crops that chatted with us, the old man full of stories by the ditch or that pub with the amazing stew.
Its that hidden beach that apart from you was empty, with its beautiful turquoise water, its solitary sea stack and little ruined castle on the headland. That wasn’t on the lonely planet I hear you say?
Back roads Ireland is unrushed and unhurried, the old out of the way church and graveyard, the tourist centre that was just a little too much on the back road to be busy, but it was so interesting!
Especially now in this day and age of digital technology where if your not online you are effectively invisible means there are travel gems that are waiting and wishing to be seen. Evocative places where time stands still and where its all about slowing down and being part of, as opposed to being apart from the experience.
